Principal's Message

Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year!
My name is Jessica Marshall and I am Buttercup Preschool’s Proud Principal. I joined the YB family in January of 2023 after being the Assistant Principal at Lindero Canyon Middle School. Before that, I was an elementary educator for 17 years in Thousand Oaks. I enjoyed teaching all levels from Transitional Kindergarten through 5th grade. I am bilingual and biliterate in Spanish. In my free time I love to hike, exercise, read books, see live music and performances, and be at the beach. My husband, Jonathan, and I have three children: Mia, who is in 11th grade, and twins Andrew and Olivia who are in 7th grade. We have two energetic dogs named Tanner and Max who keep us very busy and active.
As we begin a new school year, this year’s motto, “Make Your Mark”, encourages every student, staff member, and family to contribute in their own unique way. Whether it's through kindness, creativity, hard work, or curiosity, we believe everyone has something special to offer. This year,
let’s celebrate the small moments and big achievements that help shape our school community—and leave a lasting, positive impact.
In our preschool program, children learn and grow through hands-on, play-based experiences that support their development across all areas. Our classrooms are rich with opportunities for creativity, movement, storytelling, and exploration. Each month, we dive into engaging thematic units—like “All About Me,” “Seasons and Weather,” or “Things That Grow”—which guide our learning through art, songs, books, and sensory play. Children build early math and literacy skills in ways that feel joyful and meaningful, such as counting during snack time or retelling stories with puppets. Outdoor play is also a big part of our day, giving children time to move their bodies, take turns, and connect with one another. Through this balanced approach, we nurture curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning in every child.
Safety and a positive school climate is a top priority at Buttercup. I look forward to working together with each of our students, staff members, and families to ensure our campus is a fun and safe place to learn. It is my goal to be as accessible as possible, so please come by anytime to schedule an appointment or feel free to send me an email or call. We are all here to help your family have an amazing school year!
Warmly,
Jessica Marshall
